How many staff users does Ghost support in theory if self hosting?

Hi all, we are new to the Ghost platform and we would like to know how many staff users it supports in theory.

Is there anyway a user himself can register to be a contributor?

Thank you!

Hi @mdoutfits

I hope You’re well :)

For Ghost(Pro) there is no hard limit on how many users you can create but you will be upgraded (after warning) if you exceed the active staff account limit on your plan: https://docs.ghost.org/faq/views-and-staff-users/

Users cannot register themselves and need to be invited by either an editor, administrator or the owner account for the publication.

If you have any other Ghost(Pro) related questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch with the support team: support@ghost.org

Hi @tim-ghost, thank you for the details first of all. What we wanted to know was how many users would be supported in theory by the current open source edition if we ourselves host Ghost.

Thank you!

Apologies for the misunderstanding. There are no limits on the number of users (theoretical or otherwise) that you can have.

Obviously as the amount of data and the amount of traffic you get to your site grows you might need to scale up your server instance (more CPU and RAM) and cache more aggressively with a CDN like Cloudflare.

Hi @tim-ghost, thank you so much and now we have a better understanding of the user limit. If self-hosting, would it be possible to develop a registration progress in which the contributors can sign up?

Thank you!

No Problem @mdoutfits :)

It is possible to develop extra features or plugins for Ghost.

Being a truly free and open source product developed under the MIT License you’re free to develop additional plugins, fork and modify the code to your requirements, discuss product features and open pull requests back to the code base for consideration / inclusion in Ghost.

If you don’t have the technical know how yourself I’m sure there are plenty of freelance developers that would deliver a piece of work for you (at a cost).
