Backend login redirects to login page

Hi there,

I’m using PikaPods to host ghost for my daughter’s site. All was running well yesterday until I tried to login today to the backend and I just get presented with the login box (see image)

The only thing that has changed today is that I set up a custom domain from PikaPods.

I have checked other posts which seem to attribute this to cookies, so I have allowed cookies for my domain and the ghost login page. I get the same problem in incognito mode and with a browser that I have never used before (Chromium). I usually use Firefox on Linux.

I would greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Nick.

The login in the image is for the backend. Frontend users don’t log in with a password; they request a login link.

So, are you finding that you can’t login or something else?

Has the custom domain also been added to the Ghost config (I believe these are environment variables in PikaPods)?

Other than that: any chance you’re using a CDN (even Cloudflare) on your domain? That has produced that result for me before, when cookies weren’t passed on through the CDN.

Best guess: Your cookie is for somedomain.pikapods.net, but now your site is at yourdomain.com. So… you just need to log in again, and then you’ll get a new cookie, and everything will be fine. If you don’t have the password, check to see if your password manager has it (saved for the old site). If not, and you don’t know it, you will need to get transactional email working in order for the password reset link to arrive.

Hi,

Thanks - to be honest I set this up at about 4:30 in the morning but I thought I logged in directly with the domain name.

I don’t recall even setting up a user, but looking into this it appears that I set up my daughter’s email with a password for the admin account. Sorry about this, I have a displaced femoral nerve at the moment and not getting hardly any sleep!

You probably didn’t expect to get half of my life store here, but thank you for helping me - all working nicely now and I am looking forward to learning Ghost after being a long time WP user. Love what I am seeing so far.

Sorry again,
Nick.

HI @jannis,

All resolved now, see my other post. I don’t see anywhere to add the domain in the environment variables but its all looking good now.

Thank you for your response though.

Nick.

Hello @Cathy_Sarisky,

Yes - all sorted now and it was all my mistake.

Thank you for helping out here.

Nick.
