I’ve noticed that I can keep editing a post almost indefinitely — changing wording, improving the structure, tweaking the introduction, and adding more examples.

At some point, though, more editing doesn’t necessarily make the article better.

How do you decide when a post is ready to publish?

Do you have a specific checklist you follow, or do you simply publish once the main idea is clear and useful to the reader?

1. Is it factual?
2. Is your point of view clear and easy to read?
3. Does your post open the floor for discussion? (If comments are enabled)
4. Is a further edit necessary? Or am I chasing myself around? If I’m editing so much on one post, could this post instead be a series of it’s own?

Yes, that’s a good point. This will give us around 40% of an idea of whether the audience will like the content or not. One more thing: before reading the blog, you need to forget that you wrote it yourself and read it from the perspective of a normal reader.

> How do you decide when a post is ready to publish?

When I only have sufficient time to press the ‘publish’ button before my self-imposed (and rigidly enforced) deadline of 5 pm. If I didn’t adhere to that, I’d still be tweaking the odd sentence or section.

More seriously, a publication deadline is great for focusing the mind … it forces you to _start_ with enough time to _finish_.

I am re-editing everything I wrote on my actual lead project but in the personal side/blog I like to not respect so much rules:

- What was the motivation to publish? Is that filled?
- What is the message? Is it clear and landed?
- How I feel when I read the finished draft?
