Online Safety Act (UK)

I use Ghost Pro in the UK about local democracy in Bristol (bristol-uncovered.uk). This falls under the category of a “user to user” service in the UK and it seems that I am in the scope of the act and can be held liable for comments made on my site. The only way I can mitigate non-compliance with this regulation is to “moderate” every comment before it is published. This legislation is a massive threat to free speech in the UK. Has Ghost assessed this legislation and can you provide any guidance on how best to comply with it? I believe the Ghost Platform itself is impacted by this legislation as it provides service to people in the UK.

“Ofcom has created an online Regulation Checker to help those operating web services understand whether they’re obligated to comply. That decision is consequential because the penalty for non-compliance can be severe – a fine of £18 million ($22 million) or 10 percent of their global revenue, whichever is greater. There’s also the potential of criminal liability for senior managers who have ignored obligations or lied about compliance.”

I mean I would then disable comments, problem solved.

That would be one option. But people could still report the content of a post. And I am sure everything I publish could be considered to “cause harm” to one person from their individual perspective.

So your country doesn’t actually have any free speech if this exists in this form, I would state thats a dangerous place to live if online then since anything can “cause harm” in our new butterfly existence where people look to blame anything but themselves for everything.

Sorry man.
