Anyone have any ideas on how to add teaser text of the post prior to the user signing up?

Not possible yet, although it is apparently coming. Meanwhile, John mentions how he pulled it off on Rediverge here:
I guess you can’t use the {{excerpt}} helper with article content? There’s also the excerpt field on the Post itself. Otherwise, you could perhaps repurpose a metadata field as teaser text?
I saw theme vendors using the {{excerpt}} to do what you what. I personally don’t like this behavior.
I was looking for the same thing but found no solution to pull long teaser text from actual content. Custom excerpt support only 300 character. The custom excerpt only supports 300 characters. So far, I have found no way to show a long text teaser other than to use sales text, as John O’Nolan did on rediverge.com
