I think people does switch from WordPress to ghost because Ghost is powered by a modern technology stack using Node and js – it’s fast .

it s fast but it s also a nightmare to set up on “normal” webhosts. i am happy with my ghostPRO, but i’ve some smaller project for which i spend 30 euro/ year and i am not sure i need to switch

I switched mostly due to the speed, ease of use and SEO.

However, I’m thinking of switching back, **but I really don’t want to**. WP is awesome, but it’s also a mess. If Ghost would fix the commenting system, so I could block users, I’d stay, but if they’ll never fix it, I might have to go back.

Wordpress is an hot mess and it’s impossible using it. I just miss some functions, like the possibility to autoupdate meta titles with expressions like %%title%% %%sep%% %%currentmonth%% %%currentyear%% or the media library and other little things.

I switched for reasons already mentioned, Wordpress is a total mess. I miss advertising options using the simple Ghost pro tier but that sad the headache of not having to worry about the constant updates of Wordpress makes it all worth while. I used WP for 12 years and except using it for two company landing pages I will never ever go back to WP.

I never switched because I started with Ghost only. I initially tried BackdropCMS which is more near and dear to FSF.

I left Wordpress for Forward Kentucky primarily because of the cost. The basic site didn’t cost too much – but the plugins were eating up my budget.

I’ve never understood why people say WordPress is not secure. The core is bulletproof, it is usually plugins or themes people install without proper research that cause problems if not careful.

If you self-host WordPress, just like Ghost, you have to keep things up to date.

There is a reason why some of the world’s largest publications choose WordPress. You even have the likes of News Corp now using WordPress on several of their biggest websites.

For me, Ghost has just plateaued and no longer feels like it’s improving.

Having said that, I am still a fan of Ghost and use it on one of my smaller projects.

I believe that things should be the easiest for the smallest fish in the game, or the lowest-hanging fruit. The fight should be for a clean, truly open core with no presets, bloat, or hard-coded settings or options.

My biggest gripe about Wordpress is their themes. You drop 60-100 dollars on a theme and then you’re met with the “Required Plugins” which often times require you to be an active subscriber for. Now, you’re spending more money on a blog than you envisioned and your site is loading slower because it’s calling APIs to confirm your license, loading bloat, etc.

Ghost does it right. It keeps it slick and simple. Newsletters built right in, you don’t need a new plugin for that. Loads instantly, you don’t need a plugin for that. etc etc etc
