Hi. I’m using Source theme and I want to change the number of posts that show up on the home page. I see a couple of other posts about this so I went in and downloaded the theme, changed the number in package.json like they suggested. Rezipped it up and uploaded (also just tried in the edit option onsite). It worked BUT it eliminates the nice “above the fold” featured posts and top section (currently back to unedited Source: https://therebuild.ghost.io/). Is there a way to limit it so that below where the about/subscribe section is there are less posts?
tysm in advance
I’m guessing that when you loaded a new version you lost your theme settings. They’re in design and branding
Okay, but then how do I not lose those when making that minor change? Or is there a better way to make that change and not lose those settings?
Settings are attached to the name of the file you uploaded. So.. if you upload a file with the same name as what you downloaded (don’t let your operating system add a (1) or anything), Ghost should ask if you want to overwrite, and it should preserve your settings when you do.
Thank you so much, Cathy. I tried that and it says that I cannot override the default theme. I will have to figure out some other work around. But tysm.
Right. So you need to just re-enter the settings to your new source-edited or whatever you’re calling it, once, and then you can keep uploading and overwriting with the different name. (You will probably also need to change the name in package.json.)
Thanks again. This is helpful. I figured it out. And, yet, it didn’t change anything. It didn’t mess everything up. It oddly moved the sign up block to the bottom instead of the middle of the page. Idk why. But, even though it is set to “4”, it still has 12 posts after the “above the fold” section. Any ideas?
Additional info: if I change it to “3”, the top section goes down to 3 posts (plus the featured) and then there are no more below at all. ???
Okay, last thing. From playing around with it, I realize that it has to do with whether or not I have the “show featured posts” opted into. When I don’t, it seems fine. Still not what I’m fully looking for but maybe for now the best I can do.
Source theme doesn’t fully respect some settings.
So disrespectful
no, it’s all good. I thought about changing themes but I actually have come to really like what I’ve got going with Source. And, I figured it out well enough. Plus, as I have more and more posts up, it will be fine. It’s mostly that I imported very old posts from a former blog and I don’t want them on the home page. But it’s also fine.
Thanks so much for all your support!
