So I have 3 tiers and want to offer early bird prices as I launch my site. If down the line I increase these prices, are the people that joined at the start locked into what they paid for, or will their fees increase as I’ve increased them on the site, because I want to avoid that, however down the line undoubtedly my fees will increase.
If I do change the fees do I start a new tier and archive the old tier or simply over-write the tier pricing.
Cheers guys.
Changing the price of a tier in Ghost does not change existing subscriptions on a tier.
It’s possible to change prices for existing subscriptions using Stripe.
I would change the pricing rather than creating a new tier, particularly if you have benefits tied to the tier. Adding a new tier would mean adjusting any posts with tier-specific access. (Of course, if your post access is just ‘members’, ‘public’, and ‘paying members’, then it doesn’t matter.)
I wrote a post about this last year: Can you change subscription prices in Ghost?

It might be worth flipping the question here. Rather than focussing on how to change tier prices, get the tiers set up correctly now and use Ghost’s offers feature to reward and incentivise the early birds with one of the following:
- free access for a limited time (free trial)
- a discount on the real price for a period of time
- a discount on the real price for life
With the first two options, the price change is actually handled for you—and with all of the options anyone not given access to the earlybird campaign gets charged your full price.
