Newsletter text not searchable?

Hi, All –

Apologies if this has been answered somewhere and I’m just not finding it, but I’m frustrated by the fact that the content of my newsletter is only sporadically searchable. When I enter terms that I know for certain are in the newsletter content, sometimes they return results and sometimes they don’t. (If the terms are in post titles, they come back more consistently.)

Is there something I’m doing wrong, or a setting I need to adjust? Or is this a known bug?

Thanks in advance for any help/info.

The basic built-in search bar will only search titles and excerpts. There’s no way to change that, its a limitation of how it works.

If you need more advanced search you’ll need to use an external service such as Algolia.

Ghost Theme Development: Adding search to a theme

Thanks. That’s disappointing, but useful, information.

There are also a couple of Algolia alternatives - Jannis at MagicPages has used an open source one he’s written about here which is implemented on my site. A search for @Jannis and Typesense should … scratch that, try here: A better search for Ghost - and it's not Algolia (and open source!)

Thanks, everyone. But I’m just going to leave Ghost. Not having searchable content is a deal-killer, and I’m also unhappy about how difficult they make it to figure out how to cancel your subscription.
