Restrict text in RSS feed?

Is there a way to restrict the RSS from picking up the full text of an article and only show the excerpt?

you can do this with custom themes. you need to create a new rss.hbs template, and adjust your routes to redirect /rss to this template

routes:
  /rss/:
    template: rss
    content_type: text/xml
