That Smoke Pit Veteran - Military Blog and Newsletter

Hey guys,
I’ve had the domain: thatsmokepit.vet sitting around for awhile and decided to finally make use of it.
The idea is to cater a TL;DR format of news headlines about anything and everything that pertains to the Defense Sector - primary focus on the U.S. I also give advice to current and former service members.

If you have any suggestions, please drop them. Otherwise, please enjoy!

Interesting. Any opinions or observations on the Camp Lejeune mess of Marine Corps veterans allegedly getting cancer from smoke from actual burning garbage pits? Not that I have anything to do with it personally at all; I do not. Just the first example of a really bad noxious military “smoke pit” that comes to mind.

I live on the border of a different military base. Certain chemicals and fumes or smoke occasionally do cause scintillating scotomata with fortification spectra and crenellations of flashing lights in the visual field, followed by nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and severe headache.

May or may not be military in origin. There is reported to be massive state funded application of noxious chemicals in the area.

So, what you’re referring to is most likely the results of the “Burn Pits.”

Military burn pits are open-air disposal areas used by the U.S. military to burn waste, including plastics, medical waste, and other hazardous materials, in deployed locations like Iraq and Afghanistan. While effective for waste reduction, burn pits emit toxic smoke, leading to health issues for military personnel and potentially contractors and surrounding communities.

My Niche is about the gossip, news, and resources shared in the Smoke Pit amongst other Active Duty Servicemembers, specifically, the Marine Corps.
I can take a deeper dive into that though. I was stationed in a neighboring Base of Camp Lejune and have trained on another neighbor of that base as well. My father has also fallen ill and passed away due to vapor chemicals from his time in Vietnam. So this topic is extremely personal to me.

What base are you near by? Maybe I can dig a little deeper and get you some answers as well.
