I self-host Ghost on Digital Ocean as a droplet and have appreciated greatly the versatility, security, minimalism, and usability of the Ghost platform. I have a quick question about saving designs. When I upload the zip file into Ghost’s design section, the design is updated, but is not retained. I asked ChatGPT 4o about this and tried to restart ghost’s instance when accessing the server’s directory /var/www/ghost but it did not make a difference. Has anybody else encountered this phenomenon where the design is updated and is reflected when accessing it but it is not saved after some time?
That’s weird. What theme is this? It wouldn’t happen to be Casper or Source, would it? If so, try changing the name of the zip file before uploading. Those two themes are special, and bundled a little differently.
You’re probably also aware, but clicking on the picture of one of the official themes will download it fresh, and overwrite any edits (again, unless you’ve renamed it).
This could be a caching issue or a permissions problem. Try restarting Ghost, clearing the cache, and checking file permissions to ensure your changes are being saved properly.
