Full text search?

Issue Summary

The search box on my website does not show full-text search results. It only seems to be able to search words in post titles, which is pretty useless.

Setup information

Ghost Version
Ghost Pro

Yeah, the built-in search on Ghost only searches titles, authors, and tags.

There are a few options to add an advanced search to Ghost:

Open Source (but also extra work on Ghost(Pro)):

Stuff that should work without extra work on Ghost(Pro):

Also Advanced Search — real full-text search for Ghost sites | SWS Tools (13 minutes to set up, works on Ghost Pro, free with your own Algolia account, and most users fit in Algolia’s free tier.)

How could I forget :see_no_evil_monkey:

Unfortunately, this option requires a Ghost API key, which isn’t available to Pro users on the “Starter” plan.

I ended up using this.

I also used this code-injection in the header to hide the useless default search icon:

<style> [data-ghost-search], .gh-search, .gh-head-search { display: none !important; } </style>

That looks to have not been updated for Ghost 6.0, which means it’s going to start failing at more than 100 posts. Might not be a problem right now, though! :)

Ugh, I see it hasn’t been updated in years, so I doubt it will be soon. I guess I need to find something else…

So Claude Code says it shouldn’t be too hard to update the code for the API limit in 6. Since the script seems to be abandonware, I will create my own fork with this patch and post the link here after it is up.

I haven’t made the change yet, but before I forget, the fork can be found here:

Code has been updated. Feel free to use the fork if you like.

No idea why Ghost doesn’t just offer real built-in search for all pro users, but this seems to work just fine.
