When a ghost blog is made private, how do I change the text above the “login” submit box?
I’d like to add “Site being update”
Where do I find the docs to edit this?
We don’t currently have docs for how to edit that, but here is the view that is used for it: https://github.com/TryGhost/Ghost/blob/master/core/server/apps/private-blogging/lib/views/private.hbs
You should be able to change the content there

You should be able to simply add your own private.hbs file rather than changing it in core.
Just copy the one that @egg linked you to and paste it into your theme root directory:
