How to exclude a tag from navigation?

I want to divide my blog into a personal and a more professional related area.
For that I would like to show everything with the tag “professional” on the homepage (no matter what additional tags are used) and on a another link I would like to show everything that does NOT use the “professional” tag.
I found out about the filter feature but would like to know if there is an easier solution by just using the navigation feature of the Design page in the admin area?
