Mailgun integration not working and unable to find test email

For context, i used digital ocean to create my droplet and self host ghost on it, it went smoothly and.. then i added my mailgun api key to the newsletter mailgun box, I followed this Tutorial, but there were some differences like i had to create api key, and i pasted it to ghost.. and edited the config.production.json using my smtp details.. but now when i try to subscribe it just keeps on buffering and after sometime it timeouts.. and I am not able to find how to send test email to check the newletter api key integration..

pls help

Digital ocean blocks outbound smtp from droplets. Try port 2525. It may be unblocked. Or switch to using the api in config.production.json.

Subscription emails are not sent by Mailgun by default. You need to check your SMTP settings and your server restrictions as Cathy mentioned. If you want to test your newsletter configuration, you can manually add one of your own emails as a member from the panel, then publish a test article with “E-mail only” mode, by selecting your member as the target.
