question for any of you using zapier or make to connect ghost memberships with third party apps.
I’m trying to trigger an automation that connects FIllout (a forms-maker/payment collector) with ghost memberships. the trigger would be Payment received on fillout form, and it would trigger membership creation (of a specific tier) on Ghost.
so the direction is from Fillout (or any external payment processor)
to
Ghost, create member of a particular tier (essentially add the person’s name and email address to the list of members for that tier).
has anyone done this with either Zapier or Make? or,
has anyone been able to automatically create a membership in ghost to a particular tier via any route other than Ghost’s signup?
Thanks Raki! I’m fiddling around with Zapier and Make connections to Fillout presently and can create a member ok on Zapier, just not able to assign a tier level. Not there yet but surely its possible. I’m new to Zapier. In the meantime, I’m thinking about sending an extended “free trial” ghost offer following payment as a workaround so they get access to the right material. I do wish Ghost had a one-time payment option. Would be much cleaner for my purposes, but this may work. Thanks again for weighing in!
I haven’t looked in sometime, but the functionality isn’t that great, and that’s why I abandon it. If you have other solutions, I would def do that.
Something you might check as I can’t remember, is see if you can do something like
Trigger (Payment Made) Action Ghost Member Created Action Look Up Member
so that you will be able to see what they paid, in order to be able to assign the proper tier in the next step. Action Update Member (if there is the option) and assign membership tier based on what they paid.
Tip: If you plan on really growing your site, this is not going to be great because you will use so many of your zapier credits with every action. If you want my two cents, the amount of money this would quickly become with a site of even a few thousands people, it makes more sense to spend a little chunk all at once have someone build you a basic custom application to handle this. I would go on Fiver and look for Ghost Devs there if this is something you want to do, or request it in the correct forum here.
By doing this, you will then have a data base and application to build anything you want off of it in the future. If you are just starting out, what you are doing is fine. But you are going to have to do lots of automations because the way you are doing it, I don’t even think it’s going to send them a confirmation email and magic link to log in. So you would then have to set up an email explaining all of that, could be wrong.
Thanks - this is helpful advice. I think I’m going to do this manually for a while and see how it goes, then maybe get a developer to automate if I stick with this plan. thanks again -
