Hello — so far and hands down; the biggest Q and challenge we get from our members is about accessing the mobile audio player slider to choose where to start listening from (time slider)
We have included in our FAQ that they can use landscape mode, Lock Screen, or maybe mobile desktop view, to pick up where they left off or find a specific moment in the file to replay.
but the support requests persist every couple of days
I’ve resorted to adding text under the audio player to try and help them see how to use it, which is a manual process currently with a snippet… I forgot it last night and got yet another message this morning.
If the audio player could be enhanced somehow for portrait view, that would be aces, but I wouldn’t have the foggiest idea how to do that
- The main reason they want this, which might solve for the vast majority, is they are used to being able to pick up where they left off if they didn’t finish an audio
That might be a lot to ask… and I’ll note that mine does keep my place sometimes, but I have not isolated exactly when or how it clears, or if it’s specific to my device or browser. I think people are navigating away and back (I keep mine open in a tab)
Also — most people are truly content to work around by just jumping to where they left off manually by sliding the placeholder (indicated by their feedback)
Thinking of some approaches
-
Maybe a toggle for some basic instructions on how to slide the payer — like “rotate for additional player controls” or some short helper text
-
Or a long press to bring up slide control in portrait with a little icon and/or words to show its available
-
some have also asked for the skip forward / back 10-15 seconds but that is a slight tangent
I’m happy to help think through what might work in terms of the UX and microcopy — I just don’t have the chops to know what’s the easiest to implement without making it a big complex job
We are trying to avoid a lot of customizations and 3rd party solutions but will consider if there’s nothing that can/will be planned for the built-in player. We do like the general reliability and ease of this one as-is also.
Thank you all
