I would love to see Ghost introduce a native Early Access publishing option for membership websites.
The current problem
Today, the only workflow is:

Publish an article as Paid Members Only (or a specific Tier).

Wait 24–72 hours.

Manually change the post visibility to Public.
While this can be automated using the Ghost Admin API, n8n, GitHub Actions or custom scripts, the biggest issue isn’t the manual work.
It’s the reader experience.
When a visitor lands on a members-only article, Ghost simply tells them they don’t have access. Naturally, they assume the article is permanently behind a paywall.
In many cases, that’s not true.
Many creators (including myself) don’t want permanent paywalled content. We simply want to reward our supporters with early access before making the article available to everyone.
Unfortunately, visitors have no way of knowing that.
Proposed solution
Add a new access type:
Early Access
With options such as:

Initial access: Selected membership tier(s)

Automatically unlock:
-
After 24 hours
-
After 48 hours
-
After 72 hours
-
On a custom date and time
-
Once the timer expires, Ghost would automatically make the article public without changing its URL, SEO, comments or analytics.
Reader transparency
The most important part of this feature would be informing visitors that the article will become free.
For example, Ghost could display a banner like:
Early Access
Supporter members can read this article today.
This article will become free for everyone in 2 days and 14 hours.
Become a Supporter to read it now.
Or even simply:
Free in 2 days 14 hours.
This makes the experience completely transparent.
Visitors understand they have two options:

Support the creator and read the article immediately.

Wait until the scheduled public release.
This is much clearer than making readers believe the content is permanently locked.
Why this matters
Many membership websites don’t sell exclusive content.
Instead, they sell:

Convenience
-
Supporting the creator
This feature would:

Increase the value of paid memberships.

Improve transparency for readers.
-
Reduce frustration caused by unexpected paywalls.

Remove the need for external automations.
-
Encourage a creator-friendly membership model rather than a permanent paywall.
My use case
I’m currently building FlyByAdrien, a website dedicated to building an Airbus A320 home cockpit.
My goal isn’t to lock articles forever.
Supporter members simply receive new articles 48–72 hours before everyone else as a thank-you for supporting the project.
After that period, every article becomes public.
Today I have to manually change the post visibility, and free visitors have no indication that they can simply wait a couple of days to read the article for free.
I believe this workflow would benefit many creators using Ghost and would fit perfectly with its membership philosophy.
