Reaching out to post-migration Substack subscribers

We moved our newsletter from Substack to Ghost about a year ago. Since then we’ve had over 1300 new subscribers at Substack. I’d love to reach them and either add them to our Ghost subscribers or offer them a subscription deal or both. Is there a way to do this?

If it’s a free newsletter, export them from substack and import them to Ghost. They presumably signed up on substack because they wanted the newsletter, right?

Or… send a substack newsletter inviting them to visit your Ghost site and sign up there. You could include an offer link for a discount if you like.

If they’re paying on Substack, it’s possible to move those subscriptions to Ghost, but it’s a bit of a pain, and you might want to reach out to the migrations team (if hosted by Ghost Pro) for help.

I guess I have a question: Why is the Substack site still up and accepting subscribers, if you moved? Many of the sites I see move publish a last post that says "Hey, we’re not publishing here any more, come on over to ABC.tld to see the latest. Or they shut down the old site.

Recommendation (mostly for others considering getting into a similar state): You should always have your users visiting YOUR domain. So if you were on Substack, my biggest piece of advice would be to spend the money to have your site on a custom domain, so that when you moved to Ghost (or anywhere else), your users visiting ABC.tld would automatically end up on your new site. If you’re publishing as abc.substack.com-- or abc.ghost.io–, you’re letting the platform own your visitors. Don’t do that.
