That error message happens if your ember (the admin app) version is out of sync with your Ghost version.

It also happens when either ActivityPub or TrafficAnalytics are not set up properly.

If this is a production site, you now have a bit of a problem @Lipown. Upgrading to the Ghost 6 release candidates will apply the Ghost 6 database migrations. That means, it’s now impossible to go back to a Ghost 5 version.

There is no official documentation yet, but you can have a look here to see how ActivityPub and TrafficAnalytics are supposed to look like:

It is also perfectly possible to just ignore this error. It does not impact anything apart from the Social Web/Network view.

Ah, thanks. I hadn’t seen it there yet.

@Lipown could probably do an export of content through the Ghost admin panel, zip up the images folder, export the members, and then reimport everything into a new Ghost 5.x setup, if they needed to. [That’s going to lose member stats, lose comments, and mess with newsletter subscriptions if there are multiple newsletters. Details here.] I’m hoping this is a ‘just-for-fun’ site or that it isn’t a big deal that the error is being thrown, but I wanted to add the export and import option here in case it was needed. My vote is for ‘ignore the error until 6.x is released and/or fix your compose file’.

Oh thanks! I have only ghost and db in my compose file. That could be it. No Active pub configuration.

Btw it’s just my personal blog which I started a guess month ago  - a funny project of mine.

  • Caddy - I am running Caddy so I will update my configuration in Caddyfile
  • traffic-analitics - is that service mandatory?
  • activitypub
    • Is that service mandatory or can I connect to some sort of public one?
    • If I will selfhost that, how it is traffic hungry? I have 500mbit line but do not want to waste a lot on that….
  • tinybird - is that service mandatory?

These services are necessary for Ghost 6’s feature to properly work, yeah.

Since there is no official documentation now, apart from this Github repository, it’s hard to say anything specific. I’d suggest to ignore the error for now, as Cathy suggested. It does not impact anything else.

This will heavily depend on how “active” you are on the Social Web. Running ActivityPub for over 200 Ghost sites on Magic Pages, I can tell you though, that in the last month there were 167 GB inbound traffic and 22 GB outbound traffic.
