SEO Challenge: “Ghost Themes” Search Showing Halloween Results Instead of Ghost CMS

Hi everyone,

I’ve noticed something interesting and wanted to open a discussion about it.

When searching on Google for terms like “Ghost themes” or “Ghost templates”, most of the results are related to Halloween costumes or spooky designs — not themes for Ghost CMS.

However, other platforms with somewhat generic names (for example, brands that include common words) seem to rank clearly for their product-related searches.

I understand that “Ghost” is a common dictionary word, which likely creates ambiguity in search intent. But I’m wondering:

  • Is this something the Ghost team is actively addressing from an SEO perspective?

  • Are there recommended keyword strategies for developers creating Ghost themes?

  • Has there been discussion about strengthening the association between “Ghost themes” and the CMS specifically?

I’m asking both from a curiosity standpoint and from a marketing perspective, since it can affect discoverability for theme creators.

Would love to hear thoughts from the community.

Thanks!

When I search “Ghost Themes” on both Duckduckgo and Google, in a private tab, without logging in, I only see results related with Ghost software, starting from Ghost Marketplace. I don’t know, maybe it’s a location/language thing. Here in the Netherlands no-one searches “ghost theme” for halloween designs, I believe.

But if people face with this issue while they are looking themes for their ghost site, probably they would add more words to the search like CMS, blog or website.

I’ve about given up on ranking “Ghost Developer” — which doesn’t mean what I want it to. And “Ghost expert” is also full of people doing exorcisms!

@Cathy_Sarisky seeing that your business is in “Salem” and you do a good job troubleshooting a lot of issues here. I think you earn the title of Exorcist.
