Since when were 'alt tags on Product Block Images & Galleries'

Since when were 'alt tags on Product Block Images & Galleries’ something to request like a nice-to-have feature?

Alt text support is Website Development 101 - it’s been a standard requirement for over two decades and is mandated by:

  • WCAG guidelines (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines)

  • ADA compliance requirements

  • SEO best practices

  • Legal accessibility standards in many jurisdictions

This isn’t an enhancement request - it’s addressing a critical gap in basic Ghost functionality that directly impacts:

  • Accessibility compliance for users with disabilities

  • SEO performance and search engine rankings

  • Professional credibility when presenting Ghost as a viable CMS solution

  • Legal compliance for businesses required to meet accessibility standards

Instead, when asking about when this will be looked at, I get support’s cookie-cutter response of being happy to submit as a FEATURE REQUEST, but they are unable to guarantee if this would be added.

I funded the Ghost Kickstarter with a few quid years back and am now betting my career on their platform, offering sustainable, carbon-conscious, accessible web design.

How do I tell my prospects that Ghost doesn’t have this as a priority? How will that pay my bills?

It’s affecting my page score, their page score, which affects my credibility! Thanks Ghost!!

This needs to be escalated to the development team as a critical accessibility compliance issue rather than a feature request, otherwise …

Substack’s looking very attractive right now! :face_with_peeking_eye:

I’m not defending the lack of alt tags on product cards, but in case you weren’t aware:

If you load your images into the image card and set the alt text, then drag them into a gallery, they retain their alt text. It’s an annoying workaround, but it does work.

It’s a start. Thanks, Cathy. Does that work for Product Blocks too for images and or icons?

I don’t believe it works for product blocks, unfortunately. :frowning: It’s definitely not a full fix for the problem, but maybe it’s more than you knew was there!
