I’ve noticed that some readers sign up for a free subscription from a page that clearly states it’s for paying subscribers only (as this appears at the end of the preview)
However, perhaps they subscribe from the Fediverse feed which - for the same post - carries this sign up button:
Surely the message should be consistent? If it’s only for paying subscribers that should be clear to Fediverse readers (the screenshot above is from my ‘reader’ view of people I follow), because some will sign up and then wonder why they cannot read the post after all.
There’s also the members vs subscribers vs paid subscribers issue, but that’s secondary. I don’t think readers know what the distinction is always, and I think some of the terms are used interchangeably (when perhaps they shouldn’t be).
