What happens to my activitypub account if I change domain?

Will it simply change the handle and retain post history? Will I just lose post history?

Is there a way to simply delete one’s activitypub account and starting over again? Will my old account remain like a zombie account on every federated instance?

Currently, Ghost ActivityPub server doesn’t have domain migration support. If you change your domain, you start with a completely a new fediverse account.

Previous handle? Your previous posts will remain on mastodon servers those already fetched them, forever. Because Mastodon always keeps a copy of all posts it’s aware of, regardless of their sources. I don’t think there is an automated process of cleaning up “dead” accounts from all fediverse. Maybe it’s possible to ask Mastodon server owners to delete that account from their db, while you still have the ownership of that domain.

And what about the account itself (index@mysite.com), if there are no posts, for example I can see the account on a Lemmy instance, will it remain as well in search results for platforms that fetched it?

If I delete a post from Ghost will it be deleted from the fediverse platforms as well?

Yes.

I can’t try this now but I think this is implemented. You can try by sending a note, see it on another instance, then remove it. It should be deleted from other instance as well after all the background communication is done (generally under a minute).
