Issue Summary
- Explain roughly what’s wrong
Wikimedia commons “use this file” HTML content no longer works
In the drafting stage, the link works and created an embedded image.I can attach a caption. No problem.
When I preview or publish. The entire figure is missing.
I assume there is an issue when generating the post from the draft.
This was working before. (see version notes)
- What did you expect to happen?
I expect to see the figure in preview or the publish page
Steps to Reproduce
- Paste this directly into a new post, See that a figure is successfully created.
For example: you should be able to paste this directly into a post and it will make the figure for you
<a title="Vincent van Gogh
, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons" href="https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Vincent_van_Gogh_-_Starry_Night_-_Google_Art_Project.jpg"><img width="512" alt="Vincent van Gogh - Starry Night - Google Art Project" src="https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/01/Vincent_van_Gogh_-_Starry_Night_-_Google_Art_Project.jpg/512px-Vincent_van_Gogh_-_Starry_Night_-_Google_Art_Project.jpg"></a>
This is the official “use this file (for web)” HTML on the wikipedia commons page: File:Vincent van Gogh - Starry Night - Google Art Project.jpg - Wikimedia Commons
-
See that the new figure was generated as expected in the new posts drafts page.
-
Click preview. See that it is now not visible
-
click publish. See that it is now not visible
Workaround: instead of pasing directly the HTML, one can make a HTML block, and then paste it there., and then wrap and add a block manually

I am running on the official hosted instance:
Version: [5.79.6+moya]
This was working when I did my last post on Jan 29th
This previous post was edited just 3 days ago and the updates did not lead to figures disappearing. I am not sure if this helps or not.
