Allow replies to closed topics! does not allow replies to closed topics.
I think this is a very bad approach to building a knowledge-base. This way, if someone has additional information to add to a topic for future posterity, then that person basically has to create a new topic. This way a single issue will become fragmented and covered in multiple forum posts, which aren’t even linked to each other.

Let me give an example.

Today I had to rename my ghost installation directory. Unfortunately, this is a royal pain to do with Ghost but luckily there is a forum post on this topic. The post is incomplete however. Being a fan of open-source and helping-each-other-out I’m willing to expand upon the answer so that others who run into this issue can save a few minutes of their time with trial and error. So I create an account with this forum and then…alas, I cannot add to the topic because “This topic was automatically closed 14 days after the last reply. New replies are no longer allowed.”

I’m not really interested in “why” this policy is in place and I don’t think there’s much of a point in starting a long discussion about it, but I figured the easiest way to bring this to your attention would be…a forum topic.

Hi Laszlo, thanks for your post and the feedback about how the forum works.

Starting a conversation by expressing complete disinterest in any other points of view to your own is not generally the best place to start - in terms of making friends or influencing people  — however, looking past that, I understand the point you’re making and we’re open to testing out a different approach to see if it works better.

So, I’ve just disabled the auto-close feature. We’ll see how it goes.

Thanks again for sharing your input

Hi John,
Well, that was ridiculously fast!
I looked at the original forum post I figured I could add some additional info to but it’s still locked - I guess with discourse changing this setting isn’t retroactive.
Thanks anyway and I hope that this change will enable people to build a more accurate knowledge base for Ghost, which is a fantastic platform that I hope will continue to evolve for many years to come.

Hey @lieszkol, discourse change wasn’t retroactive indeed. Reopened that topic

Thanks Gargol! I’ve gone ahead and added my two cents to that topic.
Have a great day!

Great response! Respect :sunglasses:
