Analytics paid members = paid + complementary

The Analytics Growth tab reports the total, free and paid members. As expected, these numbers add up. However, the ‘paid’ number is actually paying PLUS complimentary. If you go to the members listings and filter on status = paid, you might get a smaller number.

As far as I’m concerned complimentary means ‘free’ (one meaning is ‘free of charge’ and it’s been in use like this for 200 years) and they’re being listed incorrectly under paid. Perhaps there’s a reason to group them differently in the two views, but it’s not immediately clear why to me.

And — distantly related — is it still possible to get the monthly vs annual percentages? These were useful.

Thanks for this feedback. Paid is currently the number of people that can access paid content. That said, I understand the confusion in the analytics context (as opposed to when selecting which members to send a newsletter to). We’re working on a solution to make this more clear.
