Basic question about Ghost memberships and pricing tiers

Hi, I am looking to move from Substack to Ghost. I have 1050 subscribers on Substack and a healthy number of paid subscribers. Both the Creator and Team plans on Ghost allow only 1000 members.

I’m obviously not getting something. What is the difference between a subscriber on Substack and a member on Ghost?

Thank you!

No, you’re on the right track. In order to receive a newsletter from you, the receiver needs to be a member on Ghost. Though, as a member they can do more than just receive newsletters. They can log in on your Ghost site, comment there, and read posts that you potentially haven’t sent as newsletters (but paywalled on your Ghost site).

On the Ghost(Pro) pricing site you can use the slider on top to set the amount of members you have. This will then show you the available pricing options.

Oooohhhh. I didn’t even see the slider! Thank you! The slider jumps from 1k to 3k. So I’m presuming that even though I’m only slightly above 1k, I’ll need to pay the $40/month for up to 3k, correct? Thanks again.

I would assume so. Though, for the details on pricing, I’d suggest reaching out to support@ghost.org.
