Hi! I wonder whether you have found a solution on how to create an account without entering credit card details?
I know this answer comes a bit late, but in case others have the same question, I wanted to chime in. Creating an account without a credit card can be a challenge, but there are definitely options available. Firstly, you can try using a prepaid debit card. Many of these cards can be loaded with cash and used just like a regular credit card
this is what made me create the forum account here in order to find if there are alternative.
I went to register and met a paywall:
it is very puzzling that Ghost communication is strong about open source and more flexibililty in payment than for instance substack: Ghost: The independent Substack alternative with 0% fees
But the requirement in order to just do a trial is very restrictive.
Looks like you were trying to sign up for Ghost Pro, which doesn’t have a free plan. If you’d clicked the link in your screenshot, you’d have seen the explanation for why they require a credit card for a trial.
Ghost is open source. You can host it anywhere you like, although I don’t know of a hosting provider that doesn’t require some validation before letting you get online, and especially before letting you send emails in bulk.
you don’t get the point: only Euro-American banking system for Ghost Foundation own paid hosting ie. if you don’t have a Visa/Mastercard/Amex you can’t sign in. Chinese, Indian, Russian cards for instance.
But then Western powers want it like this it seems.
It is not about me btw., as I am in Western Europe, but about the idea in general.
and yes I can download the code and run a Ghost blog like any other CMS on a dedi, but it was not that idea here.
If you’d like to complain to the Ghost Foundation, their email is support@ghost.org. This is a community forum, populated by a variety of folks, including self-hosters, theme developers, and folks on a wide variety of managed hosting platforms.
If you’d like to create a post asking for recommendations for hosts that don’t require a credit card, or encouraging someone in one of those locations to start a Ghost hosting business, feel free to do so.
p.s. I don’t work for Ghost Pro.
