Email Client Dark Mode - Color Inversion & Readability

Issue Summary

  • When newsletter recipients have their Gmail phone application set to dark mode, many Ghost elements become unreadable: accent colors used in buttons and links and the callout boxes, for example. Header cards invert when black and white are used but other colors and Ghost elements do not invert.
  • Ideally white/light mode would be forced across all email clients. I have my preferences on my phone set to dark mode, for example, and the Ghost newsletter arrives in my built-in iPhone Apple Mail app as white, even though my inbox is set to dark mode. It looks great here! But the Ghost newsletter appears on a dark background in my Gmail app, and many elements are unreadable. If white/light mode can’t be forced across email clients, the colors need to invert to become readable. This is an accessibility issue.

I am using the latest version of Ghost. Attached are screenshots of my newsletter in Gmail iPhone app so you can see.
