Email content different from website post

I would love to have a way to specify the content of the email sent with a post to be different from the website post itself. The use case is clear: to publish a (very) long post on the website, but not send the entire thing by email, and instead send a link to it, with an invitation to read. Something like “We just publish the latest edition of our series X, click here to read it!”

An alternative would be to send only the title and the summary text, along with a fixed/predefined link to the post on the website.

We have had users complain that long posts (especially with images) take too much space on their inbox, unnecessarily, when they could they be reading it on the website.

You can publish your post as “Publish Only”, to just publish on website, not send to anyone. Then you can create another Post, then publish it “Email Only”, which will not be visible on website but sent to your members.

I think this might be a duplicate Idea. If so, you can vote for the original Idea here:

Hello! Thank you for this. While it is a similar idea, it is not a duplicate per se, since what I am suggesting, ideally, would be more versatile. We would be allowed to customise the message sent by email.

Regarding what @muratcorlu said, yes, that is currently possible, but not ideal, since editors need to worry about two different “posts”, which are actually the same post, just two different parts of it: the actual post, and the email notification of publishing. In the meantime, it is what our editors are doing :)
