{{excerpt}} but without linebreaks

I’m wondering if there’s a simple way to use {{excerpt}} but without including the line breaks. I think this behaviour might’ve changed between Ghost v4 and v5?

This breaks my theme and I would like to see if there’s a way to enable me to get the excerpt with in a stripped version.
