I’m close to releasing our first TestFlight beta of the unofficial Ghost app for iOS and iPadOS (and macOS). And yes in the future we will have Android as well.

I think you’re going to want to look at Ghost’s terms around brand and trademark. I suspect you may need a new name, but I don’t work for Ghost, and I’m definitely not a lawyer!

Thanks. I don’t think you can trademark Ghost as a name. But I’ll reach out to them.

Even if the word ‘Ghost’ itself is difficult to trademark broadly, incorporating it into the name of a third-party integration creates a direct conflict and implies an official affiliation where none exists.

I like the idea of this though. (Android please)

So I came up with some ideas for names (if it does conflict with Ghost):

  • Ecto (Short for Ectoplasm—the stuff ghosts are made of)
  • Medium (Double entendre: A person who talks to spirits / A platform for content.)
  • Ouija (The board used to guide the spirit—i.e., your dashboard)
  • Séance (Implies a gathering to communicate with the “Ghost”) There’s a contact form called this.
  • Possess (Taking control of the Ghost)
  • Polter (Short for Poltergeist—a noisy ghost, good for a publishing tool)
  • Afterlife (Managing the life of your content)
  • SpiritGuide (Helps you navigate the platform)

Ironically, there was a blogging app called Ecto, about 20 years ago. Long gone now, and the developer’s domain now seems to be owned by SEO spammers.
