How do I respond to comments?

I love that Ghost has native comments now, but I would like to engage with them. How do I, as a staff member, respond to comments on my posts?

You need to add yourself as a subscribed member from the admin.
Then visit your public post and login like a regular subscriber would, and then you can comment.

I see. Is that the only way? I was hoping for something more standard, i.e. the author of a post should be able to reply to comments on it, and have their comments highlighted as being from the author.
