Issue forwarding subdomain to new site

Hello,

I am having a domain issue and am hoping someone can help. Ghost only allows three URLs in a forum post so when I refer to the URLs in the yaml file below I am taking out the dot-com but they are in the file. Background:

The website for my podcast is www.spotlightonpodcastDOTcom. It is hosted with podpage.

The subdomain bonustracks.spotlightonpodcastDOTcom used to be the blog for the podcast and is on Ghost Pro.

We changed the domain for the blog to www.thetonearmDOTcom so the podcast and website are separate entities.

The spotlightonpodcast domain is managed in Squarespace (it used to be with Google Domains but they sold their domain service to Squarespace).

The issue: bonustracks subdomain is not resolving to thetonearm. What we have done so far:

We created a CNAME in Squarespace pointing the bonustracks subdomain to thetonearm domain

We added yaml file to Labs in the Ghost admin with this content:

- source: bonustracks.spotlightonpodcastDOTcom/:splat
  destination: https://www.thetonearmDOTcom/:splat
  status: 301
  force: true

We looked up the DNS and the CNAME is pointing to thetonearm.com

Can we achieve what we are trying to do natively with Ghost so we can preserve our SEO and links without having to use a third party like Cloudflare?

Thanks

bonustracks should no longer be managed by Ghost now that it’s moved. It looks like you can enable subdomain forwarding in SquareSpace, which I think is what you’re looking for:

Thank you for this, @vikaspotluri123

I had overcomplicated it, thinking I needed to use CNAME and not just plain forwarding. Thank you.

This is interesting. I set up the subdomain forwarding in squarespace and while it gives me the choice to maintain the URL paths in the forwarding, when I save the settings it reverts to do not forward the paths…on to squarespace support, I suppose!
