Limit to Ghost apps per server

Ghost | DigitalOcean Marketplace 1-Click App - can one run multiple ghost blogs (say 10) on a single server ? I am specifically looking at $12.00/mo - 1 vCPU - 2 GB RAM - 50 GB SSD - 2 TB Transfer.

In my experience in Synaps Media by hosting hundreds of Ghost sites, 1 vCpu and 2GB ram is too tight for 10 Ghost sites. It can work, but if a bot crawls your sites aggressively, or if you upload multiple images at the same time, your sites can crash because of out of memory errors.

10? No.

2-4? Probably if they’re small and low traffic.

And… you’ll have to sort out what’s up with the 1-click install, to do your own other X installs. I’d start from Ubuntu instead.

Having said that, Digital Ocean is not really a good price, for something you’re going to stand up and leave up. I’d compare vs Hostinger: VPS Hosting | Powerful KVM-based Virtual Private Server – if you’re doing a two year commitment, you can get a LOT more vps for less money.

I most probably will go for the $24 a month VPS at Opalstack: Managed Hosting because I can host my other sites (django, laravel etc) on it as well. My blog has only 69 posts and very low traffic according to GA - only 100 uniques last month.

But my current account at hashnode has gone PRO ( Introducing Hashnode Pro | Hashnode ) for many features and I have some 10 extremely low-traffic blogs on hashnode. Want to move them to self-hosted ghost.

From my experience, even when idle, Ghost still consumes about 100-200MB of memory. Plus, the MySQL server will also consume about 500MB, just by existing.

If you then also want to add other sites onto it, the 2GB (no matter whether it’s DigitalOcean or Opalstack) definitely won’t be enough.

The issue also isn’t the idle state, but what happens when one of your sites has a spike.
