Limited to one newsletter query!?

I’m on the basic hosting plan using Casper and would like to send the occasional newsletter, but I am faced with the popup that says I’m allowed only one newsletter. Is it possible to delete the first newsletter - which is no longer relevant - and write a new one by modifying the template?

It doesn’t mean you can only send a newsletter once. It means you can’t have both “Magcek’s weekly roundup” and “The daily news with Magcek” available as separate things for your visitors to subscribe to.

Make more sense?

I’ve seen some Ghost sites that offer four newsletters. I’m not at that point yet, but I love the options. It’s great having my audience consolidated on one site.

Creator/Publisher tier on Ghost Pro gets three newsletters. The higher plans have more. Self hosting doesn’t have any built-in constraints, afaik.

I’m currently sort of a fan of using labels for member segmentation instead of separate newsletters, since that lets you send to two groups at once, in a way that a separate newsletters setup doesn’t.

Thanks Cathy, but no, it doesn’t make more sense. Could you please point me to some help on using Ghost’s Newsletters? I haven’t found Ghost’s documentation at all helpful, as it doesn’t appear to fit with the Casper theme.

The newsletters section of the manual might be a good place to start: The Ghost Manual

If my previous reply about sending multiple emails under one newsletter didn’t make sense to you, it’d be helpful if you asked a follow-up question about it. I /think/ you’re mixing up “newsletter” as a semi-regular thing you can subscribe to (like getting a magazine delivered monthly) versus a specific sending of a newsletter, which is like one specific issue of a magazine. You can have one (or three, depending on plan) newsletter available for people to subscribe to, but you can send as many emails to people subscribed to that newsletter as you like.

The theme and the newsletter don’t really interact, so I don’t think you’ll find Casper-specific documentation related to newsletters. Newsletter sending is the same on all themes.

That is actually brilliant. Thanks for the unintentional tip :hugs:

LOL. I have no idea what I said?!

Don’t you get the question how you’d like to publish when pressing on publish? You can choose to just publish, publish and e-mail and just e-mail articles. That’s where you have a golden opportunity so send out specific posts as newsletters.

Thank you Cathy and Cowgirl. I’m still confused as to the purpose of the newsletter in settings when there’s always an option of sending a post as a newsletter. An explanation would be interesting whenever?

What’s your question?

Ghost’s terminology:

  • Newsletter: This is what your members subscribe to, e.g. “Magcek’s weekly thoughts“. You can have multiple newsletters covering specific topics if you want your members to subscribe to different things based on their preferences such as “Daily thoughts” and “Weekly roundup”.
  • Email: When you publish a post, you can choose to also email that post to one of your newsletters.

It sounds like you’re mixing up “Newsletter” and “Email”. On Ghost(Pro) the number of newsletters you can set up is limited on certain plans but there’s no cap on the number of emails you can send to that newsletter.

The newsletter settings are there so you can give your newsletter a title and customise how the emails sent to that newsletter will look.

Can you email a post without the post being accessible (to the public, to your members) on the web at a static address?

Yes, when you publish a post you have three options:

  1. Publish and email
  2. Publish only
  3. Email only

If you select “Email only” then the post won’t appear on the website.
