I have been using wordpress for several years and have recently been advised to try ghost out as I am not using most of the Wordpress features and need only a simple blog.
Question: I am currently hosting my Wordpress blog and email with Thexyz. Can I continue to host email there and use ghost with Thexyz email?

You should be able to use your thexyz account for transactional email. If you want to use Ghost’s built-in newsletter feature, you’ll have to create a Mailgun account for bulk email. If you don’t want to use bult-in newsletters, you won’t need to create a mailgun account. Here are a couple of useful docs links:
