How do I send just the featured image of a post in a newsletter and not include other images or content of the post? I’ve tried various combinations in the design settings for newsletters but I cannot find a setting for just sending the featured image without the rest of the post being included. As more of a teazer to then prompt recipients going to the full post.
And I don’t want to send different newsletters to free and paid members. I would like all to receive the same newsletter, but with only the one featured image. Any thoughts please?
Thanks in advance.
There’s not a setting. You basically write a separate newsletter, with links to the full post. Here’s a post I wrote:
Simple.
- Write and assemble your post as you normally would
- When you’re ready to email it all out, Select All and then Cut the content
- Email the post
- After the email is sent, immediately Paste back in the content and Save the changes
The advantage of the above to what Cathy mentioned is that it’s all contained in the one post (rather than a separate newsletter), and clicking on the title in the email sends the reader to the post itself.
I do something similar, as for various reasons I too prefer readers to visit the site itself. I do however insert a custom message into those emails, as well as a bookmark card linking to the post. Including the bookmark card is a bit convoluted, seeing how the bookmark card doesn’t actually exist until the post is published. That therefore requires one to temporarily publish the post (without emailing it out), copy its URL, paste the URL into a draft to create the bookmark card, unpublish the post, then follow through with the process described above (with the added steps necessary for including the custom email message and bookmark card).
It can be seen over on GitHub that the Ghost team is currently working on “email template styles”, although I don’t know whether or not functionality similar to what you’re after will be a part of it all.
