Hi everyone,
I’ve been browsing the official theme marketplace recently and I think the filtering experience could be significantly improved. Right now the top tabs (Blog, Newsletter, Podcast, etc.) act as the only real way to narrow things down, and a lot of useful criteria are missing.
Here are the additions I’d love to see:
- “Type” as a multi-select filter instead of top tabs. Many themes fit several use cases (e.g. blog + newsletter), and the current tab system forces a single category.
- Studio filter (single select) to quickly see all themes from the same maker.
- Last update filter. Starting a new site in 2026 with a theme last updated in 2023 isn’t ideal — being able to filter on freshness would help a lot.
- Features filter (multi-select) for things like: light/dark mode, no-image-friendly layout, table of contents, translation-ready, related posts, authors page, 404 page, archive page, tags page, pricing page, social links, account/sign-in/sign-up pages, minimalist vs maximalist style, recommendations widget, chat-like layout, portfolio showcase, etc.
- Design options filter (what’s customizable: site-wide, homepage, post page, etc.).
- Price filter with an upper bound, not just the current buckets.
Individually each filter is small, but together they’d make finding the right theme much faster — especially for newcomers who don’t know the ecosystem yet.
Would love to hear what others think, and whether the Ghost team would consider some of these.
Thanks!
