ActivityPub: editing an old post makes it pop up in the timeline

Hi folks! I have noticed some unexpected behavior and I’m wondering if there’s a way to control it, I’m still kind of new to Ghost and I don’t know if I missed something.

I am cleaning up old posts from when I imported my blog from WordPress to Ghost, and I’m noticing that after editing each post, some Mastodon users (or other Fedi software) can see an ActivityPub post, as though I just wrote the blog post. Obviously this is causing some confusion, and now I’m worried that by editing old posts, I’m essentially spamming folks’ Fedi timelines.

Is there a way to turn off creating a new ActivityPub note when editing an old blog post?

I flagged this for the dev team last August. The solution at the time was to turn off the “Network” toggle while updating content, then turn it back on afterwards, and I was told that this didn’t harm following/followers/profile, but would clear feeds and notifications. I have not tested, use as your own risk.

I just tried that. I didn’t lose following/followers/profile, but my notifications and feeds were cleared, as predicted. A bit of a nuisance and I’m bound to forget it later. It’d be kind of nice to have this behavior customizable tbh!

Oh, I agree! Should you read in the Ghost Reader?
