I want to start over

Hi! I am testing out Ghost and I am currently creating on a free tier. I installed a theme (ease) but it didnt work out for me… so I installed another theme and now everything is messed up. How do I just delete everything and start from scratch?

There’s a delete button but it isn’t total reset. If that’s what you want, I’d reinstall.

Incidentally, switching themes shouldn’t break a whole lot (and never harms the underlying content, just replaces display logic)— do you have a bunch of custom styles in code injection that don’t work well with the new theme?

I have no custom code injection… I deleted data and reinstalled but It seems that its still messed up with the previous data. So there is no way just to “reset” everything?

There’s not a total “blank slate” button, no. I’d find one useful, too!

I’m confused by

If you reinstalled, you should have a totally empty database. Maybe it’s time to back up a little bit and share some information about how you set up Ghost, and what you mean by “messed up”?

Firstly I installed “Ease”, the free template, and started adding pages and posts. I realized that it does not look the way it should so I decided to change my template to “Source” (News). I used the “Delete all content”, deleted Ease theme and installed Source theme. Now, how do I make my blog look like the “Source” theme? It basically looks empty and with the same header from the previous theme (Ease).

(I was asking about how you’d actually installed Ghost, because there are lots of different ways to do so, and I wondered if you had an install error.)

Delete all content deletes all posts. You shouldn’t need to do it when switching themes. You also don’t need to delete a theme to add a new one.

Source has a bunch of configuration settings. You can access them by going to the settings page (/ghost, then click the gear button), and clicking here:

(If you’re a couple minor versions back, the pretty picture isn’t there, but you still want design & branding > customize.)

Then click the ‘theme’ (circled) and scroll down for homepage settings.

Source also responds to how much content you have. So if you have no posts (or only a handful), it may not look like you expect. It’d be good to add at least a few posts before playing with the theme settings, so that you can see the outcome.

If you’re still stuck, please post a link to the site (if live) or at least a screenshot, which will help with diagnosing what “messed up” means! :)
