I’ve been using the Ghost marketplace for over two years now.
My overall experience has been bad: it’s hard to understand who’s posted what, what’s new, what the specifics of each theme are.
The result is that it’s hard to choose a theme, you keep thinking that there might be something better suited to your needs. I don’t like this feeling and I’ve thought of a list of possible improvements to add to the filtering system:
the list of current tabs (blog, newsletter, podcast, etc) should be a single filter in multiple select that we’d call “type” or something like that
add a single select studio filter next to it so that we can see all the themes from the same studio
a filter by update date: do we really want to start in 2024 with a theme that hasn’t been updated for two years?
a list of special features in multiple selects: no picture friendly design (blogs without images), authors list page, 404 page, translation ready, minimalist style (vs maximalist) etc.
a filter with the design options available, in site wide, home page, post, etc.
a filter by advanced price (not beyond a maximum)
So what do you think? I think it would make things a lot clearer. It would also help studios to find their audience and understand what can and can’t be improved.
