Fresh install of Ghost 5.99.0
Running great. Loving Ghost!
The blog is a private blog for about 12 people. I set the subscription access to “Only people I invite”. When people click to subscribe they see the message that tells them they have to reach out to the site owner to get an invite.
I see how I can add new members in the admin portal. BUT…nothing actually generates an invite email to the member. Nothing even indicates that is a thing.
I switched the setting to “Anyone can sign up”, and that flow works great. People can enter name and email address, receive the email, then click to confirm membership.
So what am I missing around the “Only people I invite” flow?
Yes, I tried very hard to search for the answer first. I found people asking similar questions from 2 years ago, but not any answers that made sense for what I see today.
You’d need to manually add folks from /ghost/#/members/new (or do a batch import)
And then let them know that they can login. Ghost won’t send emails to folks who are added manually or via the import. You can send them a personal email, or for a batch, send a post as email only to tell everyone the site is ready.
Ghost uses magic link logins so once the member is in the list they need to present themselves at the door, pop their email in, and then they’ll get a login link email.
Thanks for the reply @jonhickman. It worked as you described. I had tried that and failed–when I entered the email address of the member I had manually added in a sign-in attempt, it had given me an error. My only guess is that I typo’d the email address.
I’m good to go. Thanks!
Side note: My only wishlist item at the moment is to have formatting options in comments–the same as when creating a post. Bold, italic, bullet & numbered lists at least. I’m aware that one can customize this or use a 3rd party commenting system. Good stuff!
