More advanced announcement bar

I would like to build/purchase a more advanced announcement bar for my Ghost site.

Specs for it:

  • Be able to hold multiple messages.
  • Scroll messages at an adjustable speed.
  • Have each message either be a link to something on the site, or contain a link.
  • Be able to disable the bar from within the Ghost admin.
  • Be able to edit the messages from with the Ghost admin.

I’ve looked at both the built-in announcement bar, and various third-party bars, and they all fall short of those specs in one way or another.

I don’t mind editing code, but I don’t want to have to edit and upload the theme each time I want to change messages, or turn off the bar.

Thoughts?

I removed the announcement bar because it was apparently not good for SEO…I saw this mentioned somewhere in the forum. Can anyone confirm?

Cathy’s blog post that’s linked in there also has some solutions, thoguh they are missing the admin interface, of course.

Not only that, Google uses the announcement bar text instead of the excerpt / meta description!
