Hey, are there any plans to add one-time payments? Most people have subscription fatigue.
Donations already exist as a one time payment. Or are you trying to also tie people to content access in which case I don’t expect it anytime soon.
Yes. Instead of paying monthly for a subscription plan, people should be allowed to pay a one-time fee.
Yeah, that’s not what I meant. See my reply above.
I know that this post is almost a year old, but I wanted to jump in and second the request. I just set up a Patreon creator page for the sole purpose of hosting articles that can be purchased for a single payment.
Their platform allows you to offer subscriptions and multiple different paid tiers, but also give the option for people to purchase access to just a single item.
Adding this one change would make Ghost the perfect platform for me. And, yes, I already have a donation link set up, but this would be a payment for access not a tip out of generosity.
I’m not a Ghost user but I’m looking around for options. Just jumping in here to say that the lack of this feature might be the reason why I won’t be able to use it. It would be an important addition ![]()
Adding one more voice for this request. With the same sentiment as OP, it’s hard for me to promote subscription of my page to my followers when they’ve been subscribing to other creators on other platforms like Patreon, Kofi, etc. I wonder how easy/hard it is to implement donation-locked pages natively in Ghost ![]()
Is this something Ghost is exploring yet? I’ve found a lot of forum threads from users asking for one‑off payments in addition to monthly/yearly subscriptions, but I haven’t seen any recent response from the Ghost team …
Yes, as stated in the above posts, donations is a feature in Ghost that is used to make a one-time payment.
Thank you, that’s not what I am looking for though.
Perhaps someone can provide a better description of what you are looking for, because “one-time payment” seems to describe the function provided by the donations feature.
Personally I can say that I am desperate for a way to do a one-time membership payment. Meaning, you pay once, not recurring, to get access to certain posts on the site. I want it to be up there with my recurring options, not have to create a new product in Stripe, and then create a “card” for it on my website, and then manually add people to a membership tier on the backend to grant them access (or pay to use Zapier for it).
A donation is a gift, without the giver receiving anything in return. The donation function is essentially a virtual tip jar.
We are asking to sell them something - access to a single post or item for sale - without the need for a recurring subscription.
In order for a single payment to work, you need to be able to paywall it, but accept a one-time payment for the content.
You can create a onetime purchase on Stripe, have the webhook connect to N8N or Zapier, which then can use the Ghost API call for a special treat to that member. I’ve done it before and it worked just fine.
This is of course a way to make it work as-is.
This isn’t a solution if you want to give them access to multiple posts though. I essentially want to create a new membership tier that can access a particular archive of posts with a one-time payment. Think of it almost like how you would unlock access to a course on Ghost.
You can do that too with my solution. All you have to do is make the webhook upgrade their tier.
I’ll give it a go, but would add my voice to those asking for one-time payment option. I have a book about to be released (in a month) which I want to offer for sale to my Ghost subscribers.
