I hope I am not off the charts here but am I really the only one out there who misses the functionality to easily make short posts like Twitter, X, Substack Notes, Instagram, Tumblr kind of thing on my own website? I’ve been wanting this for years on my very own website. It can be done using “normal” Ghost but I so wish there was an easier way.
You can make short posts in Ghost already, no? What’s missing? Is it a theme layout that displays them differently, or a change in the editor, or?
What I am thinking of is an easy way to post such short posts, mainly photos, and a nice way that they can be displayed.
Like notes on Substack are mega easy to post browsing on a phone. They are also easy to browse through since you normally don’t even have to open them.
No app needed, these short posts also come out looking really nice when scrolling on a phone or a computer and for me they have been a way to show off my work in an easy way for those who are more interested in my imagery than my actual writing.
But just like all other social media this kind of content doesn’t move with you if baili out of in this case Substack.
I love this kind of feature which is kind of the only thing I am missing on Ghost. A front end editor and my own little stream of short content, videos and photos.
To me it sounds like you want a “quick post” option that takes one type of input and just publishes it without the selection for Newsletter mail. And combine that with a different styling than a regular post in the feed.
If you can edit your theme its very doable out of the box. Add a new tag for each type of posts you want to create. Then style posts for that tag in the theme differently than other tags. Voilá!
Doable? Yes. Requires coding skills? Yes. As easy as with Tumblr? No.
