Tags and Newsletters

Hey Team,

I truly believe there may be some oversight on my part but I am having trouble trying to figure this one out. For starters when I create an internal tag form the internal tag tab, it doesnt show up right away but when I refresh the screen it comes up in the public tags section. Not sure why but hopefully someone out there can shed some clarity.

The next thing im looking to do is post organization to better help us internally as well as future clients who use our site. I have come up with 6 news letters, one that should compromise of all our categories, and 5 that separate each category. Hopefully this helps people get less spam and more of what they want.

From my understanding if you make a post with a tag, it should follow the same name structure as the news letter? Attached are the images of my current tags and newsletters!

Internal tags MUST start with # in their name, and must have a slug that starts with hash- . Converting between internal/public tags is a little fussy and may require a Ghost restart – or just don’t do it.

Tags and newsletters are totally unrelated. You choose who to send your newsletter to based on whether they’re paying members or whether they have a specific label (which is not a tag, but is applied to people, not posts).

Yeah I saw that, so there is no point to have a newsletter round up that does all posts if I want to separate each one, was hoping to have a little more flexibility with all posts running under collective and sent out automatically once a month but it seems to be a limitation as doing it that way only lets me be able to post one article per newsletter, so I’ll have to go back to the drawing board for this one.

I guess with what’s available is there a way to make it so that newsletters are not sending the full post and just the title image and excerpt of the post? Or a way to publish the article right away then set a specific date where it does a newsletter round up for that category?. As for the internal tags I’ll have a look and if I have more questions I’ll be sure to touch base. Thanks again for responding to my silly question.

Those are all perfect examples. Basically what I was thinking is exactly that. Ideally I’d like to send out newsletters with just the image, title excerpt and recommended posts while also collecting feedback. The reason why I don’t want to send out full posts is because iframe doesn’t work on outlook, but it does on titan mail and some other mailers out there. I need the iframe to be a core part of each post as that’s how we will be making our money through affiliate marketing. The iframe I’m using is the Apple Music toolbox iframes as they have our affiliate code linked to them. Sending people to our site is going to be our core experience for sure.
