Well, I've stalled-out almost immediately

After poking around a bit on the ghost.org website, I started with what looks to be the most basic tutorial… Launching a Publication. I followed the initial steps, up through “Installing Ghost themes.” I selected the “Alto” theme and activated it. The next tutorial is “How to publish your first post.” I’m obviously missing something…

I think I must be expecting Ghost to be something like the website-design tools I’ve used before, which have graphic administrative interfaces – eg, something like Substack’s interface. But my impression at this point with Ghost is that right now, after selecting and activating a Theme, I can no longer interact with Ghost through a graphic interface but have to descend into hand-coding html on my local computer in order to go any farther. My “free introductory period” is probably going to run out before I can find my way forward.. But I’m poking around in some websites that talk about installing Ghost on a local machine…

So… I think you’re missing something. If you head over to yoursiteurl/ghost , you should see a sidebar that lets you create posts. Posts will appear on the front page of your site.

While you have the option to use HTML if you want to accomplish something that Ghost doesn’t do natively, you should certainly be able to get a page full of post content without needing to go there.

When you’re in the post editor, make sure you don’t miss the big “plus” button when you’re in the body of the post. There’s lots of good stuff there that’ll help dress up your content.
